Botox Q & A

Loucas Dermatology

What causes crow’s-feet and frown lines?

The wrinkles around the corners of your eyes (crow’s-feet) and the vertical lines that appear in between your eyebrows (frown lines) may look similar to other types of facial wrinkles, but they’re unique in origin.

Crow’s-feet and frown lines develop due to repeated muscle contractions below the surface of your skin. These wrinkles may become more prominent when you smile or furrow your brow. Over time, crow’s-feet and frown lines begin to linger on your face even after you stop making those expressions.

Botox is the first, and most widely used, FDA-approved treatment to reduce the appearance of these wrinkles.

How does Botox work?

Botox uses a very small amount of highly purified botulinum toxin to relax the muscles that cause facial wrinkles. The team at Loucas Dermatology has been using Botox to solve a variety of skin problems since 1997.

In addition to the common concerns of frown lines and crow’s-feet, they use Botox injections to treat the following:

  • Excessive sweating in the underarms, palms, and soles of the feet
  • Fine lines around your nose and mouth
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Neck lines
  • Droopy eyebrows

What should I expect from a Botox treatment?

First, the team at Loucas Dermatology examines your skin and reviews your medical history to determine whether you’re a good candidate for Botox. If so, they develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific concerns. This may include other treatments, such as injectable Juvéderm® facial fillers.

Your expert provider at Loucas Dermatology injects Botox into the treatment area with a very fine needle. Most people require several injections, but the exact number depends on your personal needs.

The entire process takes only 5-10 minutes and you can return to work or regular activities right away. Side effects are minor and generally fade within a couple days, but you may experience slight bruising or headaches.

Results typically last four to five months. If you continue getting Botox treatments over time, you may notice longer-lasting results.
